Circle L (loaded) or E (empty). Hours on yard = walk time minus time in. Write the seal number exactly as printed on the seal.

How to use it

  1. Walk the doors and rows in the same order every time.
  2. Read the trailer number off the unit, not off the paperwork.
  3. Fill in time in from your gate log, then work out hours on yard at the time of the walk.
  4. After the walk, compare the sheet with your gate log or board. Anything in the yard but not in the log (or the other way round) is a missed gate entry or a move nobody wrote down.

How often to walk, and what to do with the differences: how often should you do a yard check?

Questions

Do I need to sign up to use this yard check template?

No. Print the page or download the CSV. There is no form and no email required.

How do I fill in hours on yard?

Subtract the time in from the time of your walk. A trailer that came in at 06:00 and is still there at 14:00 has 8 hours on yard.

What is a carrier SCAC?

The Standard Carrier Alpha Code: a 2 to 4 letter code that identifies the carrier. It is usually painted on the trailer near the trailer number. More: what is a SCAC code?
