Is there a yard check app for iPhone?

Reviewed October 2026 · features checked against the current app, prices against /pricing

Short answer: yes. Vantage YMS is an iPhone app with a web dashboard. On a yard check you pick the spot, photograph the trailer or container number, confirm the read, and the app marks the unit Verified, Wrong location, Missing or Unexpected against the yard list. Yard Check is on the Free plan: up to 3 users, 1 yard, 100 gate transactions a month, no card.

Who wrote this: Vantage, the company that makes the app described here. We say below what it does not do, too: there is no Android app, and seals are typed, not scanned.

What a yard check app has to do

A yard check is the walk where someone confirms which trailer sits in which spot. Paper fails at the same place every time: the walk gets done, but the results never make it back into the yard list. An app is only worth it if it closes that gap. Four things to look for:

  1. Reads the number for you. Typing every unit number by hand, in the rain, is where errors start.
  2. Compares against the yard list as you walk, not after you get back to the office.
  3. Fixes the list on the spot when a unit is in the wrong place or should not be there.
  4. Leaves a record: when the check ran, what it found, and a file you can send to someone.

How Yard Check works in the Vantage iPhone app

  1. Start a session. The app loads the yard list: every unit gated in and not yet gated out, with its last logged spot.
  2. Pick the spot you are standing at (for example A1 or B12).
  3. Photograph the trailer or container number. The number is read on the phone and shown to you; you confirm it, re-scan, or type it in if the photo is unreadable.
  4. The app sorts each unit into Verified (right spot), Wrong location, Unexpected (not on the list), and, at the end, Missing (on the list but not found).
  5. Wrong location and Unexpected are fixed in the yard list when a manager or the person who logged the trailer runs the check: the spot is updated, or the unit is added as gated in.
  6. End the session to see the report, and export it as a CSV file.

Every record gets a timestamp, and a photo whenever the camera is used. In the web dashboard the same check runs with numbers typed instead of photographed. The rest of the yard (gate in and out, the live yard map, the door board) runs on the same phone, with no hardware to install.

If the paper sheet works for your yard, keep it. The free yard check sheet covers how often to walk and which columns to keep.

What it costs

The Free plan is $0 with no card and does not expire: up to 3 users, 1 yard, 100 gate transactions a month and 30 days of history, with the live yard map and door board included. A Gate IN, a Gate OUT and one Yard Check cycle each count as a transaction; yard moves and reports do not. Paid plans start at $149 a month (full pricing).

What it does not do

No Android app. Vantage runs on iPhone and in a web dashboard. Seals are typed, never scanned. No fixed hardware: no RFID, gate cameras or sensors, so someone still has to walk the yard. If you need the yard counted without a person walking it, this is not that product.
