Buyer's guide · 2026 edition

What a yard management system actually costs.

Almost every YMS vendor hides pricing behind "request a quote." Here is the real market structure — enterprise vs mobile-first, hardware vs no hardware, with the hidden line items — and our own full price list, published.

Yard management software costs $30,000 to $100,000+ per site per year for enterprise hardware-based systems, or $149 to $649 per site per month for mobile-first systems with no hardware. Almost no YMS vendor publishes pricing because quotes are sized per project; the full Vantage price list is published on this page.

How to compare quotes apples-to-apples

Ask every vendor for one number: all-in first-year cost for one site — software, hardware, implementation, integration, and training, in writing. Then divide by the hours your yard currently loses to trailer hunts, gate queues, and detention disputes. A system that saves one staff-hour per day pays for a $349/month product roughly ten times over; the same math has to work much harder at $60K/year.

Frequently asked

How much does a YMS cost in 2026?

Enterprise: $30K–$100K+ per site per year all-in. Mobile-first: $149–$649 per site per month. The gap is hardware and services, not features that matter to yards under ~100 doors.

Why don't vendors publish pricing?

Project-sized hardware and services make quotes vary — and quote-only pricing lets vendors charge what each buyer will bear. No-hardware products can publish flat prices; that is why ours are on this page.

Is a cheap YMS worth it for a small yard?

Under ~100 doors, usually yes: if yard chaos costs one staff-hour per day, a $149–$349/month system pays back in weeks. Fixed automation (RFID portals, camera towers) only pencils out across large multi-site networks.

Prove the math on your own yard.
