Yard time savings estimator.

How many hours is your yard losing to lost trailers and gate waits — and what could you get back? Adjust the numbers below for your operation. Runs in your browser, no signup. Estimates only.

How much time does a yard lose to detention and lost trailers?

U.S. trucking loses about 135 million hours a year to waiting, and detention shows up on 39.3% of stops (ATRI, 2024). At a single facility the loss shows up as gate queue time, time spent hunting for a trailer, and dock doors held open. This estimator turns those three into hours per month for your own numbers.

Leave at 0 to see hours only. Vantage shows detention as time in-app; any dollar figure here uses the rate you enter.

Hours lost to trailer searching / month
Hours of driver wait / month
Total recoverable hours / month
These are your numbers, not our promise.

What actually moves them is whether every gate move carries a timestamp and every trailer has a known slot, because you cannot shorten a search you never measured. That record is the part Vantage makes. See how the record gets made.

Figures are rough estimates based on your inputs, not a guarantee. The "hours" model multiplies your own per-search and per-truck minutes by your volume and working days; the optional dollar figure applies the detention rate you enter.

Put this estimator on your own site

Free to embed on any site, no permission or attribution needed beyond the small credit line inside the widget. It loads a stripped-down view with no header, no footer, and no marketing.

That height fits a filled result in a typical content column, adjust it to suit your layout. Prefer to see it first? Open the embed view.

Frequently asked

Does this send my numbers anywhere?

No. The estimator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, logged, or stored.

Why show hours instead of dollars?

Detention rates are set in your carrier contracts, not by us — so we show recoverable time by default and only estimate dollars if you enter your own rate. It keeps the number honest and yours.

Can I put this estimator on my own site?

Yes. Copy the iframe snippet above and paste it into any page. The embedded view is the same calculator with the header, footer, and marketing stripped out, and it carries one small credit line back to this page.
